Bought this 86 B2k, and when I first cranked it up, it smoked like it was on fire. But only for about 1 minute or less. Other than the smoke, it ran great. I got it home, and was told it may be the EGR valve, because of the smell the smoke was giving off, as it didn't smell like oil burning. So me and a friend pulled the EGR valve, cleaned it through and through, and reinstalled it. After the reinstall, the EGR was working to its full potential. Cranked it, and still smoked pretty bad. Also, after the EGR cleaning, it started running like shit, especially the idle.

I bought the truck on May 30th, and cleaned the EGR on the 31st. Since then, I have started it everyday, and with each day, its smoked less and less. I cranked it today, and no smoke at all. But the smell was still there! Smells like old gas burning or possible flood smell. I can't seem to put my finger on it exactly.

Also, while running, the lifters are making a bad tapping sound. My friends truck is so quite you can't even hear it run. But mine sounds terrible with the lifters rattling. Does this model truck come with manual lifters, or hydraulic lifters? Or is this something thats hard to tell without taking the valve cover off?

Now, I am not very good at mechanics, only the smaller stuff can I do without any help......lol! Would this be a minor adjustment, or something for someone with expertise to check out?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

have you done an oil change on it?..if not try that..do a oil change cleaner as well...buy some cheap ass oil,do the change with it..run it for a little bit to get it thru the motor.. then change again with some good oil, filter and all

This link will teach you a little bit about the lifters. b2000s came with solid unless changed out. b2200s come with hydro lifters unless changed. Sounds like you need to adjust yours. Also how old was the gas in the truck when you bought it? Its possible you just have some bad gas.

Been told the same thing by a few friends. I started it today, and again, NO SMOKE...yeehaw

I was really hoping it had solid lifters. Got a friend that do some adjusting for me. Thanks bro.
