Hey all...new to mazdas, not the scene....fixing to sell my 95 nissan and looking at a mazda b2600i. From research i can assume an 89-93 would be my best option for fuel injection. Is this correct? Is there a better motor? i did the carb thing on a mighty max with the mitsu 2.6 so i dont wanna deal with anything carb'd. Is the 2.6 mazda the only fuel injected motor? Are there any issue prone to certain motors i need to be aware of (ie: 2.6 mitsu overheating and head problems)

Thanks

if you find a feul injected 2.6 it will be a mazda engine instead of the mitsu one... its got more power than the other b motors they offered... just be ready for there to not be a lot of info on the fi 2.6, and for parts to be more expensive than the 2.0/2.2 counter parts.

Should i stick to the 2.0/2.2? I'm lookin for reliability and no carb...dont wanna deal with a carb'd motor again.....were the smaller engines any more reliable and were they offered in FI

They stopped production of the 2.0 after 87 and only offered the 2.2 and 2.6 from 88 on. I believe the early 90s 2.2s were fuel injected. There are some parts that swap between the 2.2 and 2.6 platforms, but some of the stuff you can't swap between the two, you can find compatible parts from a second gen turbo 2 rx7 that you can bolt onto a 2.6. Like the clutch set. Rx7 one is cheaper by atleast 100 bucks compared to the 2.6 set. Honestly I love my 2.6, and wouldn't willingly go back to one of the smaller factory motors...

2.2 EFI engines were available in the northern states and Canada, parts for the 2.2 are easier to find in local part stores compared to the 2.6 EFI, i have both, and finding parts can be a pain, i have to use the dealership more often for the 2.6, the down fall to the both of them is the ECU go to shit, ive replaced mine in both my trucks, 2.6 motors seem to be more known for overheating problems
in my area b2600i's are really hard to find, especially in 2WD, b2200's are the truck of choice here, but all in all there both awesome trucks, ive had 10 of them

I've never had any over heating issues with mine. And I run her hard about every time I drive her... Only time I did have an issue was cause the water pump went out. Mine has almost 300000 miles on it, but I try to take care of mine. Including getting my ecu rebuilt, but that only cost me 75 bucks locally, and wasn't the problem I was chasing at the time. The only real problem I run into is trying to find 2.6i specific parts in junk yards... Otherwise I love my 2.6
