Just picked up my clutch kit and rear main seal set today; puttin em in this weekend.
My single simple question is:
do I need to drain the engin oil to replace the rear main seal?
I hope not, I expect I do; hoping to hear what I want....

Thanks!

To install the rear main seal does not require draining the oil.To install it is fairly easy just clean the area with brake cleaner. Then lightly grease the seal and place in location and tap it lightly in a circular motion.I use a socket that is bigger than the seals side and a hammer very lightly. You will want the seal to be flush with the metal not recessed in.That is all I did on my b2200 and taking my time.

OH yeah!

You tell me all i want to hear!
If it is as easy as you say i'll have my clutch and R. main seal replaced before nightfall!

OK, I've also got a somewhat-silly, but related question: to do a clutch R&R, does the transmission need to be removed completely, or can it just be disconnected and slid rearward (on a jack) to provide clearance?

You can move it back and position it on the cross member so it doesn't fall down. I did it this way to hide my work, when I lived in an apartment complex, where work on vehicles wasn't allowed.
