So I bought a 86 b2000 and I've had it for about a year and did the new carb set up and new header with a flow master super 10, and did up the interior a bit, and when recently doing a tune up, I found out the my distributer isn't from a 86 b2000, it's from a 87 2200. We couldn't get the right rotor and cap combo. So that got me thinking,, are those year distributers interchangable? Or do I have the 2200 engine? And how could I tell what engine I have?

Pulling valve cover will tell which rockers you have, but even that's not "for sure", some use the earlier mechanical lifters to be quieter.

Top timing cover should state 2.2 for a B2200 engine.

Distributors should swap as a unit. Get parts depending upon which distributor.

The distributors are interchangeable, but what you can do to tell which engine is look at the block plate which is located on the exhaust manifold side of the engine. It will be stamped with either an "FE" or "F2" along with a serial number. FE is the 2 liter motor.

Thanks Robzilla for clearing this up.

There is a flat spot facing up that will list the engine code. It usually has to be cleaned off to read it. I have it circled red in the pic. Also the exhaust side of the block will have 2.2 or 2.0 stamped see pics.
