Ok so i had my front brakes lock up on me and after replacing the calipers, greasing the "slidy bits" on the calipers, regreasing the wheel bearings and bleeding the system i hear a squeel.

The noise is most audible in 2nd gear but can be heard even in neutral. It seems to be coming from the intake side of the engine (drivers side) and can be heard increasing in pitch with increased engine RPM.

I'm sure it is not the brakes because it makes noise when the truck is stopped.

I've been reading and i can only come up with a few ideas: alternator belt, PCV valve, some sorta bearing like the clutch throwout bearing that could have been damaged when the engine was fighting with the brakes.

Any ideas? Any past experiences?

Its not a hiss from a vac leak is it?

Remove your belts and run the engine and see if the noise is gone, if it is, then check all of the things driven by the belts. If the water pump is driven from the belt then do not run the engine long. I know the 86-93 engines have the water pump driven from the timing belt, but not sure on the pre-86 motors.

Also, if the noise increases with more electrical load (eg. Radio on, heater full blast, headlights on) it could just be a loose alternator belt.

There is only one belt that drives both the water pump and the alternator.....

I would rather not run my truck with it detached at all; I like your suggestion to increase the load on the alternator to see if the noise picks up. I'll try this and get back to you.

Also i am going to try rubbing belt compound or soap on the belt to see if that does the trick.

I'm still not convinced my brakes are working at 100% either, there is a definite pull to the left upon braking. Seeing as i replaced the right caliper on Sunday I'm willing to bet it just needs to be bled a bit more.....
Thoughts?

Well,

Brakes locked up on me again today!!!

Tomorrow I am going to replace the master cylinder, front pads and rotors, clean the hubs, clean and repack the bearings and probably rotate the tires while I already got half of them off anyway (~$120).

I still have no idea what on earth the squeaking noise is; fairly certain it does not have anything to do, mechanically, with the brakes. I'm thinking that it is the throw-out bearing but it doesn't make noise really in 4th gear (1:1) so maybe the other clutch related bearing whose name i am spacing on this second...

The noise doesn't seem to be coming from the engine bay but its hard to tell cause it is awful loud in itself.

Still any ideas are welcomed, this has me and all my car buddies stumped....
