So heres the plan..

Im going to build a fully electric b-series.
ive built a few trucks when i was younger, havent had a truck in years. recently i picked up a b-2600i, which fell into my hands. so im going to be refinishing the body and scoping out a 2wd frame, or possibly fab one. as far as the ev goes, thats where things get fun.

first things first, i was thinking of useing hydraulics for suspension, which i would hope to utilize the battery bank for the drive motor.

ill have 2 solar panels on the back to trickle charge whenever possible, and ill have panels on my house to charge the truck. this project is mostly just to eleimnate myself from fossil fuels, why not?

as far as batteries i can get 90Ah 12v deep cycle batteries at a decent cost, so ill be putting multiple of those in.

heres my biggest predicament, ac or dc motor? any input would be nice. im an electrician but dont have alot of experiance with industrial sized motors. if i got with dc ill be running a high voltage on my battery pack, which make me wonder if i could make a hydraulic pump work off it? if i go with ac it could be a little more costly when i start looking into controllers, however i could keep the voltage moderatly low on the battery pack and use a simple inverter to supply something as simple as say a pto driven generater? 220v,

i got many more ideas but yea ill start with that
if anyone has any input id appreciate it, ill post up pics of my starter and my plans and things im looking into, any constructive input is appreciated!!!!

sweet idea

Yea, i found a ac motor that i can use as a direct drive, which means i could mount the motor to the rear axle and have the whole truck to hide batteries...

so many pros and cons, just gotta get the ball rolling.

In my opinion you may be sacrificing driving distance if you choose to run hydraulics. Then again you may have it all figured out, just throwing it out there.

I have seen an 8 wheeled Japanese transport thing with a motor in each wheel. It would do something like 0-60 in under 3 seconds and do 180mph.

those numbers are freakin crazy!!

kinda like occ's electric drag bike .. 8.24 seconds @ 153.mph

I love the idea. I was looking to convert mine to electric. I look forward to watching this build!

Should be an interesting build, picking the truck up tonight, ill have pics...

Def. Can't wait for you to get started and follow this build. GL and if you have any spare parts feel free to let everyone know for it could be the one some one has been looking for

I believe most EV's use DC motors. There are numerous EV websites as I would think you probably already know. On the Mazdatrucking site there is an EV project thread using a B series...no hydros though. I've thought about it numerous times, but my B is my daily driver, so it wouldn't be going under the knife. Here's his Flickr account:

Google search for EV B2200:
