My first mini build. Ill have pics up soon, stock 1990 b2200 reg cab shorty. I have big plans but would like some advice. I planing a frame off build, i want to trash the entire stock drivetrain, I mean everything. Then i plan to implant a all wheel drive nissan skyline drivtrain into it. Ill be getting everting from the the disc brakes to the twin turbored power plant. Ive been told the front suspenion just has to be welded in direct fit. Since its a reg cab shorty it has almost the same wheel base. But has it ever been done? Would it be possible? Just how hard would it be to do? Wouldnt it be bitching and very different?
I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Sounds like a cool project. I wouldn't do it if it were my first project. I would say it would definitely be a project for the advanced fabricator.

I see you're an SC boy, too. What part? I think it would be awesome to do, but it will be a HUGE undertaking. I sincerely hope you know what you're getting yourself into. Also, where are you sourcing these parts? You're going to need pretty much a WHOLE Skyline which are quite hard to come by in the states, much less the price. Good luck, bro!

Skylines are hard to get in the US? Damn they are dime a dozen up in Canada! There has to be 5 kids at each high school driving them in my city alone. Mostly gts's but there are some modified R33 GTR's and some R34 GTR's in town. GTS's go on kijiji for around 6k in my province.

"twin turbored power plant"

"suspenion just has to be welded in direct fit"

Read that entire build thread and think about what a drive train conversion involves before you start cutting

To get a Skyline (or another car that wasn't imported by the factory) approved for road use the government wants crash tests done, emissions tests and so on. There used to be a company in California that was importing them, upgrading the glass and door beams etc, as needed, to pass U.S. standards but that company was closed down. As I understand it, they had tested say an R32 but not the other models that they were "converting" and the Highway Safety folks caught them.
I have thought about buying an Aristo half-cut (front clip) and grafting it onto a U.S. spec GS300 donor to have a "factory" JDM rhd car. This would only work because the GS300 is U.S. spec; but it would be an easy way to get rhd and the twin turbo 2JZ-GTE. Of course, I would use the U.S. spec bumper bars, doors, glass etc. But, I don't know if it would be frowned upon by replacing the JDM VIN plate with the U.S. donor car's plate. To me, it all seems legal (barely) but I don't know.

i believe if a vin number accidently falls off a 240sx and somehow gets mounted on a skyline it can be made legal . good luck with the build man. id just take the cab off the skyline and retro fit the mazda cab and body to the skyline frame lol. then it wouldnt need to be regestired anyway.
