hey guys. quick ? i changed my plugs and my old ones were covered in brown, dry soot. i do burn oil but i thought oil contamination was black soot. would it be more because of a rich fuel/air mixture, or would it more likely be from burnin oil. if its not oil it might help me with a few small issues ive been dealing with. thanx

or use your head to picture a brown, dry soot if youve ever taken out a spark plug. thanks for the unhelpful comments anyway found what i need. here it is for anyone who may need it. supposedly this is common with these trucks due to computer and sensor failures.

"Ash Deposits. These are light-brownish deposits that are encrusted to the ground and/or center electrode. This situation is caused by crappy oil and/or fuel additives and can cause misfires.

The cure for this is to check for worn valve guides or valve seals, not using fuel additives, or you might even try changing fuel brands. By the way, a hotter plug is what most people use to try and fix this problem. You need to first understand that the plug is NOT typically the problem."

That's the problem, what you describe as brown dry soot might not be the same thing to someone else, that's why a picture helps.

Glad you got it figured out.
