Well, it just snowed 3in one night and i had to drive home, so that's when my parking brake started to become harder to pull and push back in. once snow melted about day later, still alittle difficult to move, 2 days later parking brake pulls up way to easy and seems alittle far out and goes back in too quickly ( if that makes sense). warning brake light came on same day this happen but went off after about 15min of driving and working normal now (as in comes on when i supposedly 'engage" the parking brake)

is your cable intact? take a look near the rear brakes and pull on the cable if it gives then the cables probably broke... hope this helps

Yo, my parking brake cable just went out too, very similar symptoms. Mine doesn't work at all. Seems like the cable is stuck. Followed it underneath, it goes into a t, and on mine, it seems stuck before the T. So now I wonder if it's all one cable, or if I can remove the section from the lever to the T. Do post back please if you fix, good luck comrade

There are 3 pieces to the e-brake assembly. Front, back driver, and back passenger. They also vary according to std. Cab or cab plus.

Check out RockAuto.com to purchase new ones. Your best bet is to crawl under the truck and figure out which one may be snapped. Either at the Y or at the drums are the typical spots to check.

You need to get underneath and figure out which part is the reason for this. You also need rear brakes in good adjsutment for parking brake to work correctly.

This site is the bomb, it was hard to find parts but they got a bunch. Thanks so much Kovs. Great info on the cable too

Not a problem. Happy to help. They are typically cheaper price than local auto parts stores even with shipping.

Short story had it snow drove to work.Snow froze on cables, melted and all is fine. But your e brake staying on is ALSO a indicator to check for LOW brake fluid.Unless your cables stretched some, and or your rear shoes are low (meaning wear) making the cable easier to pull.I would at least pull the drums and check your shoes linings and fluid level in brake master. My ebrake stayed on too when snow froze to it,but once in the garage and melted off no problems to this day and that was 4yrs ago,and yeah new rear brake everything in 11.Just a thought, and my cables are orig for my 87.
