need help from you all, have a 81 b2000 truck. i drove it ln back yard last nov. ran rough but did run. now just turns over no firing up. put a little gas in carb, still nothing. wanted to move it. must be the coil, did check spark @ the plugs, nothing. even if does run, stll did run rough. has new wires, head has been cleaned & surfaced.hard to time it when it didn run very gd. any suggestions for me? thanks, richard Hay mate, thanks for the help, I checked the coil, power in but none out to the distr. I looked inside the coil, checked the rest. from distr side to coil wire hole. Nothing then saw it was covered with rust. Cleaned it out. Did get continuity. Will put it back in soon. I bet that was a big part of the problem. We are very wet here in NW OREGON. I will keep you all informed. thanks.

Hey mate, could be a few things.... Would pay to check the following.....
Points:, make sure the gap is set right, they aren't burnt out, and that the distributor cam follower isn't worn out to the point that they aren't opening. If that's all good....
Make sure your coil ballast resistor isn't burnt out, check how much voltage you have supplying the coil and that your still getting good power supply to the coil whilst cranking the engine.
If you still don't have good spark (good strong spark should be blue and able to jump a gap of more than half an inch), test the spark coming from the coil directly, as opposed to the leads coming out of the distributor, of there is no change, replace your condensor, if there is good spark from the coil, but not from the distributor, then replace the cap and rotor button.

Check those few things and let us know how you go, you'll need good spark, set at the correct timing before trying to chase other running issues.
Good luck
