Hi, I'm new to this.
I've just bought a beaut '86 "space cab", 2 door, 4 seats, flat tray, drop sides.
Does this style/ configuration have a nick-name?
It's already work in progress, so far so good
BUT my girls can't park it without power steering.
List of "to be done" includes;
Mod 1: install power steering. All help welcome. List of parts required, pics, pearls of wisdom, wise warnings.
Should i be on a forum for these questions?
Plenty more "anybodydunit's?" to come.
Thanks Guys

I have a b2200 I got the pump, gear, mounting brackets, for 50 bucks (CL or junk yard best bet). Its a straight bolt on swap. Just make sure your crank pulley has 3 belt grooves one for AC one for your alternator and one for your power steering. The pump should bolt on the lower right side of the block. The 3 bolt holes will be there regardless if it came from factory with power steering or not. The gear will need to be swapped over, that is also a straight swap. I would recommend replacing the pitman arm bushings at this point. They may not be bad but at least you wont have to worry about it. The lines for the power steering pump run under the radiator. Sorry don't have any Pics yet. Not finished with the job quite yet I just have other projects im working on.

I have a 1988 B2200 with power steering. When the alternator belt broke 8 years ago and I had to install my spare in a hurry in some parking lot after exiting the freeway, I simply cut the PS belt. I drove it without PS belt for two weeks, and really didn't notice extra effort, and even slow speed turns/parking was straightforward. In fact, if I KNEW that leaving the belt off wouldn't affect the lifetime/wear of the system, I would've simply left the belt off.

But I was not able to determine that, so I replaced the PS belt too, and have had the PS ever since. And I'm not a muscle-laden behemoth either.

But as to your question, several here have post-installed power steering. Just be sure to get the ENTIRE system and all parts from the parts yard.

Thanks ratt2200 and Cusser
My cranks got a dual pulley and I don"t run a/c
So my spare pulley should do it.
This part of New South Wales rarely gets over 40`C
That equivalent to 104`F,
so not hot like in the outback of Australia..
Ill search the out-of-town wreckers first.
The Sydney wreckers are notoriously over-priced.
So I need Pump with hoses?
Bracket with bolts
Gear.... whats the gear? Does it work on the Pittman arm?
Yes to doing the Arm bushes. Good idea.
How do the hose lines fit under the Rad.?
Cheers.

The "gear" would be the steering gear, or steering box.

If you have A/C you'll need to make sure you get the proper PS - A/C bracket to mount your PS pump on the front lower driver side of the block - right next to the steering gear. You'll need to get the cooling loop which Ratt mentioned goes "under the radiator". I also believe there are two bolts that are not used anywhere else on the truck so make sure if you get a junk yard swap you keep all the bolts and nuts.

I too would replace steering parts "while you are in there".

Interesting description, I'd like to see a picture too. Dan
