Hi guys . Just started my overhaul on my mazda b2000 and while I am cleaning up parts . I was curious about the heat shields on upper cat and manifold . Do they have to stay or can they head to the scrap pile ? I am switching to a weber carb so I have plugged all my holes in manifold , and getting ready to sandblast and paint manifold. Dustin

I would keep the heat shield. but others have taken it off without consequence.

I was thinking about keeping them but almost all of the bolts twisted off !!

When I do my turbo swap I'm not keeping it either but the way it's done on the turbo manifold is different from the non turbo set up. The heat shield is part of the manifold gasket.

It is up to you whether you want it or not. It won't hurt your motor too much without it.

I hope not as I am spending way too much on this engine rebuild !

if you are really worried about it. think about the guys that have headers. No heat shields on those. I think you will be perfectly fine without a heat shield. Many users have gotten rid of it.

Our engine compartments are big and have a tiny engines in them. Lots of room for airflow around the engine.

Well that makes me feel better now you put it that way. I guess I will give it try and see what happens. Thanks for the advice I really do appreciate it . Dustin

not a problem. thats what we are here for.

As others have said you can remove it, I'm running "heat sheildless". If it's a concern and you want to have the engine bay cooler you can wrap the pipes with heat tape.

Thanks Dan ,I am going run it without shields and see how it does. Oh and got my pulleys today !! Thanks for the topnotch service and good parts. Dustin
