Soooo.... I checked the website for my local pick-a-part and they have monthly deals on 4 different things. June is $170 for any engine! I WANT A FE3 SWAP!! Last time i was there i saw at least 2 of them. In the next week i want to try and go up there and see if there's one i can get my hands on.

Big picture here i read up on the swap and saw these ;
-Wiring stuff? (Fuse block/setup)
-Crank Sensor hole drilling? (where,how, and what?)
-Kia fuel pump swap, does it just bolt up to stock mazda tank?
-fuel pump + line set up?

I understand the motor mounts and trans bolt right up, i would like to farther my knowledge on the things listed above so i know exactly what i'm doing when i go buy this thing. I've read up on as much as i could find on this site but don't quite get the whole picture. Thank u guys.

Hi,
Applianceguy here. This is a link from another forum where I explain how I did my swap.

and this is a link to silentdawns thread which is where I learned that it is possible to get more power and better fuel economy.

Thank you for the links! And with an FE3 swap that was for automatic trans. I heard you have to swap out for a manual trans fly wheel, and splice up the auto trans harness. Hopefully when i go down to the junkyard next week there's a manual swap that is usable. If there are only auto trans swaps then i guess it'll have to do!! One last thing that confuses me is why people aren't using the stock kia manifolds and doing the machining and drilling for others?

pre 97 Kia Sportage manifold is a tubular pipe header and this is the desired one to use.., if you can find one. After that year they began using cast iron manifold and at the JY you will find that most of these are cracked. These almost always crack, so I would not use it.
As far as a 5spd. harness vs. Auto, you can use either or, you just have to jumper some switches and such. I used an engine and harness from an auto and wired it to work on my 5 spd. You will have to get the right flywheel for your trans application.
As you see on my thread, I stayed with mechanical fan and OEM A/C and power sterring and used a Kia Sportage alternator and Mazda mount bracket with some spacers and stuff to align ther pullies.

Leave yourself plenty of time to do this and do not stress yourself out over it. I converted both my trucks to Kia Sportage and I LOVE IT! It is such a relief to have horsepower and get a little better mileage too. I get about 18-20 MPG in both trucks, but I drive WOT and full A/C as I lve in the HOT state of TEXAS!!!

What is it meant by jumper switches, to like trick the motor into thinking its being ran on an auto trans? Did you have to incorporate some of a manual harness into an auto harness?

This link to silentdawn's Thread has better step by step instructions. This is where I learned that this swap is even possible. I followed it, but I decided to keep my OEM p/s a/c and radiator and mechanical fan set-up. Again, I had to use washers of various thicknesses to spacer/align the pulley set-up. I have run both swaps for over a year already w/out any problems. You will have to go to the Kia global site to get the schematics.
