Well, 1 year and 10k miles have past since I bought my truck. Its my first vehicle and I want to keep it forever. But, like all of us agree, 86 horses sucks. Today I scored a 258 Jeep for $150! Only 30k on the rebuilt bottom end, a bigger cam and gm hei distributor, supposedly makes around 200 horsepower, and a shit ton of torque. The head needs a valve job, and I an going to do a little port matching and polishing. Its quite the odd choice, but it was cheap and different. Plans are ax15 5 speed, and a Toyota rear axle with lsd. Its going to be a while before the build actually starts, as I need to sell my Suburban to get the cash to do the project. I wanted to post this to get feedback, tips, and just see what everyone thinks.

thats gonna be crazy tight under that little hood, my 5cyl diesel swap i had to put the rad 4" further forward and the stock trans (that went together without extra space for an adapter) 4" further back.

Engine length inc. Pulleys is 29 inches, length from firewall to core support is 30 inches. Ill put the rad in front of the core support and if I have to, bring out the bfh and go to town on the firewall. I already bought the motor, its going to fit.

Hahaha thanks!

A little about me, I am 18, fresh outta high school (thx cusser) working part time (thx Obamacare lol) for minimum wage, been around cars all my life. I start my 2nd year of my auto collision class next week. when I got my truck, there wasnt a panel on it that was straight. Now my truck looks semi straight lol. That being said, I own a 1989 Suburban 4x4. Has a bad 700r4, and this is what I am using to fund my build. Anyone in or around have a super cheap trans they will sell me? Or possibly trade for a super cheap, but reliable dd?

Well its been a while since I updated. Now I have a 1995 4.0 ho head and efi, and ax15 trans! I traded my suburban for a 1977 chevy luv to use as a daily. Should start tear down within the month. Now that I have efi, I am thinking about boost

Not sure if the heads interchange. I do know that the 258 crank will go into a 4.0 and make one hell of a torque monster stroker motor.

I did find this afterwards.
