I recently had my motor overhauled and it is running great, but I'm having some issues with it idling WAY low when it's cold and then WAY high when it's hot.

I'm not totally sure my vacuum hoses are completely correct but the hoses that are connected aren't leaking or brittle. I'm trying to get the truck road worthy and need to drive it for work asap so if any of you have had a similar problem I'd kill for some advice.

Oh and the truck is totally stock aside from the new internals.

Thanks.

Does it have stock carb.? Even if you have a weber
It sounds like your choke idle cam is set to low and regular idle cam is set to high.
Maybe try adjusting those idle screws to compensate.
That's my best bet if it runs normal and that's the only problem with idle speed.

If the vacuum hoses aren't correctly hooked up i'd imagine the truck would hesitate on acceleration or something along the lines of that. Hope this helps.

The middle 2 screws are what i'm talking about.

Nailed it!
Very common oversight.

You're the man. I just kept going back and forth with the damn thing scratching my head. I have been driving it all over the place breaking it in and I've been saving for a weber 32/36 kit just to give it a little more oomph and fuel economy.

Thanks for the reply though that helps a lot.

I'm still having a small issue where I'll be doing about 40 in 4th nice and steady and then the motor'll start rocking and sputtering out. Sounds like it's running lean to me. It scares me when I'm commuting but usually goes away after I let off the gas and tap a few times. Any thoughts?
It'll all be solved by the weber but I need to get to work to pay for it haha.

Appreciate the post.

whens the last time you changed the fuel filter? that might be your current issue

Gonna buy one today. These tanks have a habit of getting rusty from what I've seen, I'm sure that's what it is. The previous owner didn't have a gas cap in it for a year and in Washington, that makes your fill neck rusty as all hell. I replaced the cap when I bought it but the rust must be causing some issues. Seized up my sending unit too but I managed to rattle it loose driving it every day.

Maybe time to drop the tank too. Thanks!

If you aren't going to clean/seal or replace the tank, you can raise the bed to take a look-see. See link " target="_blank and there are photos there too.

I'm in Arizona, the fuel tank on my '88 B2200 had absolutely no rust.
Photo of inside of fuel tank, using special inspection camera, a gift from daughter. Photo shows no rust or debris, GOOD !!!

Hey that's neat. That's the bottom of the tank? Unbelievably clean. Someone's been going to chevron.

I've been wanting to get an inspection camera for a while.

Replaced the fuel filter and it seems to be doing great. Way more responsive and no shuddering for 30 miles.

Also filled the tank and added a bottle of gumout. What a world of difference, way quicker off the line.
