Hey guys! I'm new here. I've got a 1989 Mazda B2200 Cab Plus that I've had in the family for about 10 years, and I'm looking to make it look as original is it did when it was brand-new in 1989. I know that a lot of you guys are experts on customizing these trucks, but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what color original B-Series bumpers and grilles were when they came out of the factory. Did it vary from year to year or from trim level to trim level?

I do know for a fact that Mazda didn't make chrome front bumpers and chrome grilles, since none of the original literature I have obtained from 1986-1993 nor any of the original untouched trucks I have come across have them. But the two different original variations I seem to come across are semi-gloss black (with light silver headlight bezels) and semi-gloss dark silver (with light silver headlight bezels). Here's what I'm talking about:

So what's the verdict? What's the story here? Why are there two different colors out there?

P.S. Pictures of my own truck can be seen below.

I believe 1986-1989 were the "dark silver" and the 1990-1993 were black grilles. The front bumper and corner caps on my 1988 were very dark gray, practically black, but not truly black; I still have the front bumper, but not on my truck, as it had a dent when I got it in 1994, and after about 19 years I decided to get a new bumper center part.

I ended up painting the new bumper, lower grille, upper grille, and caps all black with Krylon Fusion aerosol paint.

See for pictures of mine

is a 87 and the bumper caps and lower valence were like a mild grey not super dark just in the mid range. The front bumper was a medium grey. The pics here are of my bumper cap ends and lower valence treated in a tire shine as over time they fade bad and this puts oil back into the plastic and make is darker and look more like new.My grill was a medium grey or almost metallic grey and yes it has been redone years back.I plan on refreshing my grill back to a better oem look as it has faded over time.Hope this helps and I have bigger pics of the entire truck but,the 2 I am showing should give you the idea.I know mazda went to a darker plastic and bumper color somewhere in the 90s maybe I just do not recall.

This is all very helpful, guys, thanks. Do you know if they ever made one-piece bumpers rather than the annoying four-piece ones we're talking about here? I feel like matching the colors of the plastic and the metal will be really difficult and tedious.

I used aerosol Krylon Fusion black on all those parts, like it. Here's before I painted the upper grille to match.

Here's two photos after painting the upper grille, taken in dwindling light:
