Hey guys, just trying to find out who has successfully wired a gm alternator to a b2200 i see some stuff around but nothing concrete? advanceauto.com website even recommends it as an option for a replacement. the alternator has the 1 power wire, and then the plug which is for LIGHT and SOURCE..................were do these wires go? we have a plug for STATOR.........do you wire that into anything? PLEASE give info, THANKS

I went to an alternator/starter shop and ordered a true one wire GM alt. I left the plug for the main harness unhooked. Ran a 0 gauge wire from the alt to the battery. A true one wire alt is internally regulated and needs no external ignition wire. The bigger the amp the higher you have to rev to get the alt to start charging typically. But once it starts charging then you are good at any rpm. For examply mine would not start charging until 1200 rpms. So i would crank the truck and bump the throttle past that and then it would start charging throughout all rpms even at idle. Hope this helps

Justin, THANK YOU! i know what you said but just to double check you still dont run the stock plug and it charges? i know someone was saying something about "exciting" the alternator to get it to charge, which sounds like thats what your rpm jump was doing. Very cool im gonna try this tom.

No plug and charged perfectly. Plus its completely chrome so it looks purdy.

sorry justin i was gonna check one more thing, did you do anything at all with the stock power wire? or your not using that either?

Honestly i dont remember. Its been over two years since my truck was together and had an engine in it. I wanna say i had the factory wire and the 0 gauge wire both hooked to it. Figured the more wire on it the better. Which when it was together i was mostly concerned with voltage drop due to all the power i needed.
