Hey all,

Has anyone replaced the automatic transmission mount on an a 2.2 without lifting the engine and tranny etc or should I wait until I do my staked U-joints?

Thanks in advance for any help. Dan

if it is installed the same as the manual's mount, it should be easy. Just unbolt it, lift it, swap it and done. No engine unbolting necessary.

I had a write up on the manual trans mount on MT.

IIRC

block rear wheels, place front of truck on jackstands.

remove nuts.

gently lift rear of trans with a floor jack, with a 2X6X6 block on top to protect the trans.

note trans mount orientation.

remove and replace mount

lower trans a little

everything fitting OK? yes: proceed, no: you failed to correctly note orientation. turn mount 180 degrees, and try again. (It happened to me)

start nuts

lower trans

tighten nuts.

Exactly what I wanted/needed to hear. Thanks guys. I'll tackle that this weekend after my door lock and handle swaps.

I replaced the mount tonight, easy enough, but now my truck won't stay in park - I have an automatic. I'm assuming it has to do with the shift linkage but I'm not sure what - yet.

Want to know how I found out. It hasn't snowed here for a month so th4e roads are clear, I took my B to my buddy's house down the street. I left it running in the drive as we talked inside the front door - since it doesn't get to run very much in the winter here. During the conversation we went downstairs then came back up five minutes later.

I looked out the door and it was gone!!! I went outside to see my truck in the across the street neighbors yard near the house. HOLLY SH!T!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!

Would you believe it? My truck crossed a busy street, hit the driveway and turn away from a car parked in the drive and headed for the house. The wheels turned just enough to miss the house and the truck became hung up on the shrubs in the front yard, nearly parallel to the house!!

If it would have missed the shrubs it would have gone across another street and headed for another house that didn't have shrubs as a buffer to rogue cars!!

Any guidance would be appreciated. Dan

Holy CRAP!
I'll bet there is a person telling his wife tonight that some joker backed out of his driveway while he was bent over in the seat looking for something on the floor because I couldn't see his head, and nearly hit me!

I think you need to do a cable adjustment on the shifter linkage Dan.
I need to look at the factory service manual and see if there is a procedure for it.........or am I thinking of my son's Honda Civic here.......I'll look and see!

Here you go Dan.......

This is reason #397 why I ALWAYS set the park brake in my vehicles.

Thanks Earl!! That will help a lot. I got a copy, electronic, from someone a while ago but it is not complete so I could not find what I needed. I'll have a look at it this weekend. Once again you are a great help!! I'll send you a PM, THANKS!

LOL Yea, I didn't think about that. I wonder if anyone did see it sitting there with the head lights on in the middle of someone shrubbery? It's funny now but it wasn't last night. This morning I found a little crease in the rear quarter panel but it's nothing compared to what could have happened!

Steve_Az, Good point! I will start doing that from now on!!

Well as it turns out changing the transmission mount must have "caught" the loose manual shaft because all four bushings were gone, not a single trace of them. I replaced all four bushings and the tranny shifts beautifully and stays in park again. Looks like I was playing with fire and didn't know it. Mainly because I never use the parking brake on an automatic, I always use it on a manual. Details will be on my project post.
