any tricks on refinishing wheels? chrome peel, want to paint

hey guys, i picked up a set of caddy escalade rims for about $170 after i sold the 2 decent tires out of four that came on them right away. the chrome is peeling off of 2 of the 4 wheels. i want to paint or have them powdercoated, likely paint because i have had good luck with a good finish on rims in the past, and it's much cheaper.

#1 reason i wouldnt rechrome? i dont generally like shiny things! i like black chrome though, but likely painting them a clean gloss white.

any tricks for pulling the existing chrome finish? as it is partially peeled off of the face of 2 of the rims, and some lifts on the plastic lug covers as well. just pull what i can by hand and then wirewheel the rest at least flat, then some glazing putty to smooth?

any ideas?

Not quite sure have you tried anything that will take paint off?

well, the chrome finish is coming off as a 'plating'. i suspect i have to do what i can to get it all off, and then body work

If I were you I would media blast them, then put a good coat of epoxy primer on them and then single stage over the top of that.
