Any tips on what others have done?

Specific fan models and temp controllers would be greatly appreciated.

Looking to help MPG a bit, but also for a long term solution (i.e. want to do it right the first time, not necessarily save $5 here and there, only to have to redo the work in a year).

Thanks in Advance!

You can be rough like me and just buy a generic kit and mount it through the radiator and wired the relay to a push button switch on the dash.... or you can do it properly
If you have ANY fabrication skills I'd say make a bracket to take the new fan behind the radiator.
The controller is what you want to spend some money on

there's 1 of em. if you can do temp monitoring "dry" it's better as you're less likely to cause damage/leaks.
That's a pretty sweet one ^
I'm going to control my fans via ecu later so I wasn't worried about it being automatic at this stage (I also pay attention while driving, lol). Good luck, do a write up if one doesn't already exist on your findings/methods.

you can see my ham fisted hacking in this thread, lol.
I have since ground off those bolts

I have a Zirgo electric fan set up on my truck and it works great. Came with the controller and fan and I think it was around $100

yes there is the easy way and the proper way. i also did the easy way. bought a used electric fan for like $35, and used zip ties to attach it on the front side of the rad on my 4x4. simple relay and switch inside, i'm very conscientious of the temp in that thing, since it has an engine swap. i retained the aftermarket fan that is belt driven as well.

Don't remember my setup but I did mine easy and wired it to an acc. wire so the fan turns on when the truck starts. it can also be run as a push or pull, depending on how I wire it. I think a lot of the newer fans are either pushers or pullers so you want to make sure you get the right one. I know SPAL sells brackets and zip tie kits for electric fans if needed.

I just did mine this weekend. I ordered two 9" electric fans from Ebay and purchased a electric fan thermostat from Autozone. Which will run two fans and can be hooked up to ac compressor. I took me a about an hour to put in. All together it cost me $75.

How do you go about wiring one of these in?
Just splice the wire in on any circuit of the right Amps?
I have an 83 w/o AC or Power Steering so the wires are few.

How big of a fan do i realy need? I dont drive like a madman at all; just looking to clean up the engin bay and unlock a few HP and save a bit more on gas.
And is 2 small fans better than 1 big one?

What if i fitted a new electric fan of the same size as stock and fitted it inside the stock shroud? Seems easy'nuff for me; never had a problem with engine temp that i know about so why bother upgrading.

One more thing, I do have, sorta lying around, a radiator w/ an electric fan for a 302-ed 51' Ford F-1 project, but the 302 is gonna get sold for a straight 6 "nailhead" that,if it fits, would be sweet......

I think a fan from a 302 would fit with little mods, I think someone has done it. you wouldn't need a big one, a duel fan would do nicely. it cant be but so hard. as for the wiring, im not 100% on how most do it but id run my own wiring and use one of the empty fuse spots in the underhood fuse box and use a fuse just incase.
being how small our motors are, id say almost any fan will work well. as long as its not a box fan from walmart....... hell that would work!! lol jk jk don't do it. id just go to a junk yard and get one out of some other 4 or 6 cylinder motor.
