I'm not buying OEM, what brands are decent? I have a 1991 b2600i extended cab. Thanks in advance.
Also, easy job to do?

i dont think that you have very many options...

i think spectra makes quite a few different parts. they used to have a price list on the site, and listed the different tanks available for the trucks. remember it's different from standard cab to extended cab and likely just the sender is different between fuel injected and carb'd trucks.

Thanks, Rock auto lists a few brands. Dorman, Spectra, and another. Just wanted to know if one is better than the other. Cheers, S.

how about you get the 17gal spectra tank on ebay and tell us how that goes. some of us are trying to find a bigger tank and it looks like there is a 17 gal and 19 gal on ebay but no one has tried it yet to check fitment.

ps i also have a 91 b2600i but 2wd.

When your removing your tank you might want to remove your box. Some find it easier. You will be able to drain it if it's never been replaced before, your new tank will not have a drain though.Start spraying the hardware and clamps with WD 40 or something like it now, then it will be easier.
I have mine apart replacing the tank, fuel pump, etc. now.I have a 1992 B2200 cab plus, the same tank as yours.I didn't remove the box,I'm working on mine in an old repair shop/service station which has a pit.I'm replacing with the spectra tank as you are.It was $190 tax included here in Winnipeg,MB.I did remove the driveshaft at the diff. which makes it easier to get the tank out.Hopefully the screws which fasten the top of the fuel pump mounting bracket to the tank are not too rusted. You will get new screws and gasket with your tank.
My dilemma is the mounting bracket is rusted on top, venting tube is broken on top, and the harness is in poor shape. That's where I'm at now, trying to find another.Anybody have one?
I'd replace the pump and sock too,and sending unit for the fuel gauge if it's not working correct.
Have a look at the steel brake line which runs along the frame rail with the fuel lines. If it's rusted, good time to replace while the tank is out and you can access it.

would you please post side by side pics of the tanks. i'm interested in how they made the tank bigger. also, what was the part number you got?

thanks

Finished the swap out of gas tanks. I went with (MZ7D spectra). It was identical to the stock so either Mazda or Spectra can't measure volume. The mazda had a drain plug which made it easy to drain. My bolts were all rusted so I used liquid wrench and patience. After removing the tank I had to chisel the screws off that held the fuel pump in place. Other than that it was a very easy swap. Spectra came with a new gasket and screws for the fuel pump. I work in my carport so I had to bring out all my tools and put them back. Total time was 4hrs. The Spectra does not have a drain plug, that is the only difference I saw. I got it from Lordco autoparts for $151. taxes in. I was quite happy with that. Good luck, not a bad job at all, especially on the 4X4 model.
