So my factory cruise control quit working about 3 weeks ago and I finally got around to fixing it. It was a little tough to figure out because when I would run the self diagnostic test my test light would say "defective wiring". I'm thinking "that kinda helps". After about 2 hours of testing, I found the issue was the rubber "bumper" that the brake light switch pushes up against. That switch has two sets of contacts in it. One set is normally closed for the cruise control system and one set is normally open for the brake lights. But the cruise control system monitors both sets of switches. The rubber bumper had a perfect little hole worn into it from 200,000 miles of driving. Anyways the hole was allowing the plunger of the switch to come out just enough to open the set of normally closed contacts and yet not far enough to close the contacts for the brake lights. I was able to just rotate the little bumper 180 degrees and glued it in place so it couldn't rotate back. Problem solved. I just figured I would share this little tid bit. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue. Sorry the picture is a little blurry.

When I did my engine swap, I had to use the Chevy brake light switch because it's configured the same way, but not for cruise control.
It is used to unlock the torque converter in case of a panic stop where the rear wheels might lock up and kill the engine.

It looks like I need to get the Mazda (cruise control equipped) brake light switch, so I can get rid of the Chevy one.
