Has anyone ever fixed the speedometer fluttering issue? Every mazda that I have ever owned has done it. Is it in the gauge, the transmission or the cable binding up. Seems to go away the faster I go. Worse at 10-20 mph and better at 40-45 mph. Thanks!

So easy to fix.It in most cases is the cable causing the irraticness.Simply unhook from trans, follow drvr side frame up to firewall, removing it from the clips, take your instrument cluster out(8screws total) 4 on outside two top,two bttm, disconnect dimmer, four screws hold clear and cluster.Pull out, slide clip off pull speedo cable out from firewall side.I suggest removing the whole internal cable out and clean grease your choice on that.I used bearing grease, but white lithium works too. This normally fixs the jumping around especially when it is cold.We have pics on MT on this titled speedo making noise when cold(won't swear but just do a search it's there.

At first I was grossed out when I read that your "speedo was fluttering", just figuring you were a "prevert" (that's a real pervert), hoping the gal you saw was of "legal age". Then I figured out that it was your speedometer needle that was fluttering, and I could breathe again !!!

I posted a similar question about a month or two ago for same symptoms.

The responses were to undo the speedometer cable at the transmission end, pull out the inner cable, grease/oil it, and re-install. It took less than 10 minutes and went in real easily. I think I used white bearing grease.
