Just picked up an 86 B2000, and I need to put a tranny in it. I found one, but looking for parts interchange info, so I can make sure the tranny I'm getting will fit this truck.
Not my first time to the rodeo, but my first time fooling around with Mazdas.

Thanks for any info or leads.

You did not specify manual or auto but most b trucks are manual.Any mazda 86-93 2wd trans 5spd will bolt back in place. I might suggest getting the donor rebuilt before hand for solid service and longevity if it were me.And when you do this a new clutch kit(throw out, pilot bearing and get the flywheel machined and even suggest the rear main seal to save time and money.I will suggest one more item a new slave cylinder dirt cheap and maybe the clutch master if leaking just worth it to do all this now and be done.Sorry for so many suggestions but trying to help save you the headache later if those components fail later. If your needing something specific knowledge wise just ask.My thoughts and have owned mine for 25 yrs so hope this explains the list.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Yes, 5-speed. Didn't even know you get these in an Auto back then.

So even though any of these trans will bolt in, are they the same overall length, & use the same U-joint, meaning no mods to the driveshaft are nessesary?
Speedo cable the same, etc?

The one tranny I found for $50 is already out of a vehicle, and is 'said' to be from an 86 B2000. The guy got it as a spare part when he bought his kid an old truck. Also, the guy is blind.
I was actually trying to find a list of actual part #s and/or casting #s to help make a positive I'd on a tranny that can not be positively matched to the truck it came from.

Last thing I want to do is drive 2 hours for a transmission that isn't even close to being right.

As far as rebuilding the 'new' unit, I'm trying to stay away from that, as low cost & time is the key right now.
I do plan to of course change the fluid in it, & giving it the cursory once-over, but trying to limit it to that.
Is there anything in particular on these trannies I should look extra close at?
Yep, gonna hit the easy & obvious while swapping this in. Clutch/PP/TOB, and the rear main.

Thanks again.

As for the trans part # I do not recall a cast # off hand.I know mine still has the sticker on it.The trans is a straight bolt in,and the drive line just slides into rear on the splines. In short I run 75w90 coastal brand gear oil GL4/5 not synthetic.I would suggest get the full clutch kit with a pilot bearing!.I do not have any trans pics but you may want to check out and do a search if you do not find any here.I am a member there along with lots of others focused on the b series.Hope this helps

Ok here is a quick pic of my 87 b2200 5spd trans.Small pic yes but does have M519 stamped on the rhs back from slave clydr. Not sure if the b's I have checked have this or it was just for this yr,or mold.Thought I would share being I washed/waxed my ride and polished the whls today.

Thanks again.

I searched here and elsewhere, and found some info on the M-519/M-520, which is helpful.
It looks like most all of the Mazda trannies were just about the same, other than the Turbo and B2600.

Is the VIN # of the vehicle the tranny came in stamped on it anywhere? This would help me figure out exactly what kind of vehicle it came out of, instead of relying on what the guy trying to sell it to me says.

Idk mine does still have a sticker on the top side, but did not write that down yesterday when I was cleaning up the truck.I would have to double check to see,if any other info is stamped on it.These trans are fairly straight on design and look, and save some pics for reference.Good luck

just looked on my 86 5-speed and has that M519 stamped on it. Only thing I've seen different from b2000 to b2200 is the gussets or bracket/braces between the engine an tranny. My 86 had one on the driver side and nothing on pass side and grabbed some from a b2200 in the junkyard but noticed they were different styles. But as far as I know the bellhousing and all are interchangable between 86-93 b2000 and b2200 models with manual tranny.

welcome to the scene. if the trans is infact from a 87 b2200 i will def fit with no problem. also what part of ga are you located and where is the trans. one more thing if you ever are in doubt post a picture of the item up and we will gladly point you in the right direction. as far a i know all trans on 86-93 are interchangeable, not 100% certain about the 4x4s but all 2wds are. you could even swap from manual to auto or vise verse with a lil work.

I picked up the tranny yesterday from a guy that had it on CL in Covington. $100. It's marked M519, but no other markings I could find. anywhere. There appears to have been a small, maybe 1.5" long sticker, on the top right of the bellhousing, but it was of course illegible at this point. Having dealt with a lot of old Chrysler stuff, I'm used to the VIN being stamped on the engine and tranny, so I find it odd that they didn't do the same here. I guess it just adds more cost.
The local yard wanted $100, plus $100 to pull it from a vehicle. I found one for $50, but all the way up in Dalton (I'm in Newnan).
The PO of this tranny said it was previously rebuilt, and the truck he had it in locked up the engine, so he parted it. The tranny was pretty dirty when I got it, with no actual evidence that it was rebuilt, but it seems to shift fine, and turning the input shaft seems nice and smooth/tight.
I cleaned the hell out of the outside of the case after I got it home yesterday.
I may pop a new tailshaft seal in it before I have it installed, since they're cheap.
Other than that, it looks like I need to install the shifter housing onto the top of the tranny with some sort of thin sealer, instead of a gasket, ince the tranny is in the truck.
I also need to look up and make sure I know any possible pitfalls of installing this, the Slave Cylinder, or the Clutch Master Cylinder.
