I'm planning on painting my grill and bumper this weekend...

As you can see it looks a little rough

What type of primer and paint would be best? I don't own a gun so it would have to be rattle can.
Do I need a different type of paint for the grill in contrast to the bumper?
Thanks

use a primer that works on plastic and metal. buy some red scotch brite pads, some light degreaser(pre-wipe), 100, 150, and 200 grit sand paper and maybe if its super rusty POR-50. If you haven't done a lot of painting look up some vids on youtube to get the general idea. and if you mess up you can always repaint it. Also and this is the important part do it above 65 degrees and if you are doing outside make sure it isn't gonna rain.

I painted my bumper, bumper ends and lower grille a few months ago. I used Krylon Fusion (made to adhere to plastics), no primer or sanding.

So while contemplating getting a black upper grille for mine, last Saturday I decided on a whim to paint the upper grille the same way. I had decided to make the headlight surrounds black. It seems to me - from looking at the underside- that the grille was originally a dark gray.

I'll either leave the emblem black, or paint the letters over with a brush. Maybe some automotive touch-up paint will work, those come with a small brush.

that bumper looks like it came out pretty good...grill doesnt look to bad either..especially for a rattle can

I used rustolem satin black on mine. (it's all in had and I was broke!) my grille started out as peeling chrome and after I took a razor and a dremel to it I primed it with rustolem primer and then filler primer and then 2 more coats of regular primer then I sprayed it with the actual paint. I put down like 6 coats all together and it turned out okay...

Primed

Close shot (I wetsanded it with 400 then 800 then 1000 grits)

Finished product...

I know this is the super related to bumper paint but if it stuck to old chrome then it should work for your bumper...

I used some cheap ass paint for my bumber and grill, think it was from the dollar store, lol idk it was in my shed. its still holding up pretty nice actually, mine came out a little ruff to the touch but hasn't chipped or anything and looks bad ass in real life, lol

Yeah, I would recommend sanding first if you have the desire, as the upper grille (at least on mine) didn't have a smooth finish. I didn't have the desire to do that, and neither did I try to fill in 3 small cracks, but I did hit those with a hot glue gun on the non-showing side.

Thanks for the info guys! I plan on doing the part surrounding the headlights silver than satin black for the rest

I'm thinking of doing the mirror of your color idea, I have a chrome grill so I'm going to black around the headlights and the honeycomb and leave the rest chrome.
As far as the silver headlight and black body idea, they sell them on eBay like that already, they just don't ship to me

Is there any good way to remove then reattach the emblem? They're plastic rivets or something so if i melt them or drill them out how could i attach it back on to the grill?
