What transmission do I have?

Ok hey guys I'm new here yadayadayada. Needless to say I bought a 1998 Mazda b4000 4x4. Clean truck. Test drive was fine. But he temporarily fixed it. Tranny is shot. Sad there's people out there like that but there is and it's life. I know the B4000s 4x4 with 4 speed autos or optional 5 speed autos. Is there any way I can figure out what. By looking at the VIN or something marked on the trans or something. The faster I know the better! Thanks guys!

I don't think the ranger twins had a 5 speed auto. it was either a 5 speed manual or 4 speed auto.

The vin may tell you the engine, then you can probably tell what tranny you have from that, yes? Only certain trannys are married to certain engines...
