Looking on putting an aftermarket cruise unit on my 91 4x4. What have you guys used and whats the best option???

I installed Audiovox aftermarket cruise control on my '88 B2200 in 2003; the stock carb was already set up for the CC cable to attach. When I went Weber a few years later, I had to make a bracket and change the attachment for the CC cable. That unit is still working, works off engine vacuum.

Nowadays, unless you find a perfect factory cruise control unit and install that (like Dan Woodland did), you're talking aftermarket. Since your B2600i uses an accelerator cable (lots of newer vehicles don't), you'll need the universal type kit. The Audiovox stuff apparently has been acquired by Rostra (), and they have an all-electronic unit that also will have its own cable to attach to your B2600i throttle body. They have dash mount operating panels and also stalk switches for the steering column, you choose. Your signal will come from your VSS (vehicle speed sensor) wire or from your coil negative side/tachometer connection.

I'm thinking of installing such kit into my 2004 Frontier.

sorry forgot to mention its for my Yota with a 22re. I did look at the Rostra(spl) cruise unit but I didn't see a price or an install guide. I did look at Dan's write up and looks simple but you know different vehicle different hook ups.

Same solution.

when you got yours was it fairly simple to hook up? The previous owner had cruise in the truck but it didn't work and was a rats nest of wires , so I took it out.

Yeah, pretty straightforward. The Audiovox technical service phone was closed on Saturday, so I actually installed the magnets on the drive shaft and the sensor near it, it turned out that all I needed was wire to the coil negative side.

Apparently with a 5-speed, unless you get the optional clutch pedal switch (not available then), that if you shift gears with the cruise engaged, the rpm will go up as you push on the pedal, so you quickly learn not to do that. With VSS wire hookup, don't need to worry about that.

Pretty much straightforward install; on my B2200 I had to tap into a vacuum source on the manifold, no longer need to do that. Tap into fuse box with adapter terminal for positive, then ground wire, wire for illumination when lights are on, stuff like that. I pushed the wires through an existing grommet. I used the panel that mounts on the dash, not a stalk type, and believe that's what I'll use for my Frontier.

I estimate 2 hours to install into your Toyota or any similar truck.
