So on my way home from Knoxville last night I was coming up to a bridge, and I don't know how many of you know TN's horrible highways, and the concrete and the black top were uneven. I though I heard something bottom out when I crossed the beginning of it. Then I start to hear this almost knocking noise from behind the cab.

I pulled off and checked underneath and didn't see anything obvious so I limped to the next exit. When I pulled into the gas station it sounded like a train. Clank, clank, clank. It only makes the noise when I'm on the throttle. If I let off it immediately stops. I drove it home and it made it. My only guess is universal joints or carrier bearing. Any thoughts?

I'm not in the position to just throw parts at a problem. My dad and I got under it today and there doesn't seem to be any play in the shaft. Oh and the noise got quieter as I drove. It's almost not even noticeable now. Thanks in advanced for any help.

Just for the info its my 92 B2600i 2WD 5 Speed.

Sounds like CV joint to me... maybe your center hanger bearing?

If you think your roads are bad I'll trade you two North East Ohio roads for one of yours!!!

check and make sure your rear end isn't coming loose, happened to me and made noise sometimes. if u don't have an extra cheater bar laying around, I used a tire iron from a dodge intrepid and I had plenty of torque and had no issues turning the bolts and apperantly a dodge intrepids lug nuts are the same size as my u bolt nuts. so should have a wide variety of different tire irons you could use if u start breaking ratchets like I did. cause u wont have near enough torque to tell if its loose with just a ratchet. plus the ubolts don't like sockets unless u got one long enough. just something I learned when I ran out of ratchets and had to improvise. lol.

Check your transmission mount as well...
