I just picked up an 86 b2000 and have been giving her the much over due love she has been neglected of.
It has the stock air cleaner with the big smog contraption on it. I was wondering if it makes any sense to take that thing off and replace it with one more suited to gain a little horse power and a couple mpgs. Is that a smog pump being run by belt and pully? any thoughts on the whole Idea??

...It runs good but when I pulled the distributor cap and rotor, one of the weights for the advance mechenism just flopped out. I figure the springs are toast. My question is, Can I just take the spring to the hardware store and match it up (How specific are those springs)??

I think you'll find alot of guys here will suggest to swap to a weber 32/36 carburetor/ air filter combo. You'll see a bit of improvement in both performance and mileage.

Not sure about your other questions though...

Only way to get significantly more power from these trucks is making drastic changes like new engine built up, turbo, v8 swap etc
