I've got an 87 B2600 with cruise control, can explain or point me to a diagram, etc, that will let me understand how this system works? I see a "throttle cable" going back inside the cab to the accelerator, but I am struggling to understand how this all operates. Is it all electronic or is partially operated by engine vacuum? Is this hornets nest of vacuum lines part of the cruise control or is all this stuff emissions related?

Hey CC,

This is how I know the 88-89 Mazda Cruise works.

Crusie control Brain is under the drivers kick panal by the firewall.

Crusie vacuum unit should be on the drivers fender well near the firewall or it will be on the passenger fender.

The throttle is controled by moving the gas pedal like you would - not by controlling the card directly. That's why the cable goes to the gas pedal.

There should be a cut-off switch on the brake and clutch - if it's a 5 sp. This disengages the Cruise when those pedals are depressed.

There is a wire in the dash cluster to send a speed signal to the brain, the brain signals the vacuum unit to pull the gas pedal the appropriate distance to hold the speed.

There should be a Cruise Main switch on the dash to turn the system on an off.

Are you having issue with the system? Test the vacuum canister by seeing if it holds a vacuum.

Look here for more details...

Thanks, that is already a big help. No, I am not having any problem, per se, from what I understand the cruise control worked perfectly before. I just want to be able to figure out a way to rig it up to work on the new engine I am installing. I want to make sure I know what I am disconnecting and cutting, to make sure I'm not going to affect its ability to operate. This B2600 has about 30 vacuum lines between the engine and drivers side fender well.

You should only need one to operate the vacuum canister and depending on the engine you install you may only need one or two more!
