Depending on the OD of the axle you may be able to have it cut and re-splined. I'm not sure how big the OD of the factory axle is and there would have to be enough material for new splines to be rolled in. If the factory splines neck down where they converge at the axle (i.e. spline OD is lager than the axle OD) then this probably isn't an option.
depending on the count of the splines on the shafts, it MIGHT be possible to use the shafts from the 2nd gen 86-93 trucks in the narrowed 1st gen housing. Question, why are you trying to use a 1st gen rear end?

I highly doubt they would swap, there is damn near nothing that will direct swap from the 86-93 mazdas to the pre 84s. Only thing I found the same is the lug pattern and hell some 6 lug wheels will fit on pre 84s and not on 86-93 and vice versa.
