so since i got the truck the brakes have always squeaked and it never bothered me, so i went to see what was going on and while i had it jacked up i noticed both front wheels were extremely hard to rotate around...the pads looked fine too...

I think this is an issue because it lacks power, especially on hills, ive noticed that when moving if you really give it gas it picks up. also when on a hill stopped (clutch) you hardly roll back.

so clearly it shows signs, the squeaking is coming brake fade because the brakes are getting hot from rubbing then when i push the brake it makes the sound. not to mention the horrible mpg i could be getting. also when i get off the gas my speed drops really fast.

would the best angle of approach be to pop the calipers off and lube the guide pins and file down the edges of the pads?

the manual gave me about 12 different things to try and i just wanna know if anyone has had the same thing happen to them

Remove the wheel and see if the calipers are "stuck".

Check the bearings, might be shot or over tightened.

No insult intended above, just the first google result.

Check to see if the pistons are sticking in the calipers. First thing I'd check on a 20+ year old vehicle.

They might need to be dismantled and freed up.

Check the type of pins that hold your pads on, some are a larger type and others are smaller squares. I did a full brKe job caliper rotor bearings and pads all new and had your issue. It was the type of shims ( word was lookin for lol) used. Atleast in my case, i went and bought some from oreillys and solved my issue of sticky brakes and i had all symptoms you mentioned. Good luck.

So what was the actual cause? Did you have to change all that or was it just the shims? I'll pull the wheels off and pull the caliper off, I'm thinking it's the guide pins, the truck has a pretty good amount of surface rust in that area and underneath, because the owner was a fisherman and would take his boat to launch and he lived on the coast as well, salt water could easily get in there

Just a short story.Had soft brakes and knew the front calipers were not working as they should. So in turn I remove the calipers and find the upper slide pin which IS actually made onto the holding bracket for the pads was rusted inside and would not come out!The fix was buying new remans from napa for 44.00 each with your core.I would try taking the holding bracket which holds the pads off the caliper. If it is seized or rusted and will not come out(sigh) I would just replace the calipers.Being the age of the truck and to do lots of work 1 time I would suggest new calipers, new rotors, new pads, new wheel bearing(races are included when you buy) and wheel seal.By doing this all at once saves time,$ and headaches later down the line.Plus flushing the old brake fluid if it is not clear it is dirty!Rough cost easily 250.00 closer to 300 with grease, brake cleaner and brake fluid.Buy some permatex ultra disc brake caliper lube in a 8 fl oz jar (item #24110) sold napa, auto zone etc for under 8.00 or so.This is for the slide pins of course.Sorry for the book I just wanted to cover uh about all of it.
