Sh*t !!! B2200 AC went out today !!!! With the first day of fall, this might not seem like the end of the world, but remember in Phoenix it will be 104F today.
I smelled something funny as we exited the truck Sunday night at the Steelers bar, but couldn't "place it". This morning on the way to work (yes, we run the AC at 7:15am here, need to), about 3 miles in the truck squealed and almost stalled out. I turned off the AC push-in switch and pulled over, opened hood, saw some smoke coming out near front of compressor. I pushed the AC switch in, but compressor did not engage/turn (just the pulley remained turning). Since I have an "indicator light" on my dashboard tee'd into the circuit just before the AC clutch, and that was on, I know that the AC clutch is getting voltage.
I'll try to hop down at lunch time and ensure that the compressor itself is not locked up (if so, most likely AC clutch should've engaged, and belt should've squealed and burnt when tried after initial incident.
So if compressor turns, next step would be to measure resistance acorss the clutch electric coil, obviously not shorted because the indicator light is still on, but maybe "open" instad of finite 4 ohm or so resistance. So my first guess is that I'll need to throw on one of my old AC clutch coils, and maybe this time install a new bearing into the AC clutch, because if that got a little hot during this, not worth going through the work (see below) with a sahky bearing. So I may be essentially repeating this task I wrote up in the link below. I'll post what I find
If the compressor itself is bad, I'll be looking for a Sanden 708 Model 7225.....still using R-12, compressor itself like 11 years old, gets a lot of use out here....
