Sh*t !!! B2200 AC went out today !!!! With the first day of fall, this might not seem like the end of the world, but remember in Phoenix it will be 104F today.

I smelled something funny as we exited the truck Sunday night at the Steelers bar, but couldn't "place it". This morning on the way to work (yes, we run the AC at 7:15am here, need to), about 3 miles in the truck squealed and almost stalled out. I turned off the AC push-in switch and pulled over, opened hood, saw some smoke coming out near front of compressor. I pushed the AC switch in, but compressor did not engage/turn (just the pulley remained turning). Since I have an "indicator light" on my dashboard tee'd into the circuit just before the AC clutch, and that was on, I know that the AC clutch is getting voltage.

I'll try to hop down at lunch time and ensure that the compressor itself is not locked up (if so, most likely AC clutch should've engaged, and belt should've squealed and burnt when tried after initial incident.

So if compressor turns, next step would be to measure resistance acorss the clutch electric coil, obviously not shorted because the indicator light is still on, but maybe "open" instad of finite 4 ohm or so resistance. So my first guess is that I'll need to throw on one of my old AC clutch coils, and maybe this time install a new bearing into the AC clutch, because if that got a little hot during this, not worth going through the work (see below) with a sahky bearing. So I may be essentially repeating this task I wrote up in the link below. I'll post what I find

If the compressor itself is bad, I'll be looking for a Sanden 708 Model 7225.....still using R-12, compressor itself like 11 years old, gets a lot of use out here....

Went down at lunch time: the compressor has definitely seized. So I'll be investigating getting a Sanden 708 model 7225 replacement. D' oh !!!!

I'd only be ...mildly...interested in a Sanden 708 model 7225, and only if it was operational, complete, and very reasonable.

Because with the extreme heat out here and the number of hours the AC gets used, plus the "other" costs (refrigeration oil, flush solvent, refrigerant, dry ice for recovering refrigerant currently in my system, and several hours labor), I'm not sure it's worth it to me to even consider a used compressor, especially one that I can't check out "in person" first.

If I really had balls/time, I'd also swap in the used power steering gear that I picked up, as access would be way better while the compressor was out. I did re-check yesterday, and confirm that my AC belt was NOT "too tight", so I am ruling that out as reason for compressor failure.

I was looking at the Ac compressors on Rockauto because my Ac is not working correctly. I just don't drive my b when it's hot out.

They have an SD708 reman for $265 after core and a SD709 for $177. If you buy from them don't forget the 5% discount code in the vender section here if you don't have one.

These parts are gone. He says in a new post.

I looked those up, those are Four Seasons rebuilts, which have the reputation in the auto AC world as "For Seiz'uns".

I can get a brand-new Sanden 708 model 7225 locally for $314, likely the path I'll be taking. This way I'd delay putting the B2200 out to pasture for use up north, and bring down my 2004 down to be daily driver....
