If memory serves (it's been awhile) there is a bolt on the side of the case that you use to fill from the side. I's located n the driver's side (I think) kind of near the front and about 2/3 of the way up.

It's the square headed bolt (upper right hand in your picture) and no I don't know, but with the transmission level, you fill it until trans fluid comes back out of the plug hole.

the one i circled and the one your talking about both have square heads. the one in the picture that is circled is about half an inch higher. I've already started filling from the one on the left. any objections?

The best thing would be to get the correct amount in there. Too much or not enough isn't correct. Someone on here ought to know or have access to some kind of capacity specification.

No objection at all. That is the correct fill port. If you only fill the one on the right, you will be a little low.

Tubs, don't you have a 4x4? If so, the transfer case is drained separately. Here is a picture from the manual.

Capacity is 3.3 quarts for the tranny and 2.1 quarts for the transfer case.

Thanks Scotch. My experience was with the 2.O (carries only one square headed bolt)

It's so much easier to remove the shifter lever and fill from there. You stop filling when the oil drips from the fill hole that you've already located.
