Lots of opinions on stuff like this. Most important to change at 4K miles or less, lots of opinions on that too.
I used Valvoline straight 40W for over 15 years on my B2200, with Fram oil filter, and when I rebuilt my engine due to smoking (bad oil rings) in Oct. 2011, the crankshaft journals and connecting rod bearings were pristine, like back in 1988.
Nowadays, I buy my year's oil (with free Purolator oil filters) at Pep Boys day after Thanksgiving sale. So I use Valvoline 10W-40 now, as they typically don't carry too much straight weight oils these days; and the deal is with Purolator standard oil filter. And good thing: the B2200 oil filter is same as on my '98 and 2004 Frontiers too, and daughter's '98 Pathfinder !
