hey guys, im having some decent 5 speed issues. im pretty much at rebuild time.
the prop shaft (output shaft) seal gave out. and as expected the fluid pissed out everywhere. and now its noisy as hell. fingers crossed the gears are not shot. and its only bearings and seals.

the major issue is finding a box specified for our truck/ute here in australia. (e2200 is much easier)
however they are slightly different.

a couple options, what gear box will bolt up to our bellhousing? (which are more common or stronger?) newer? other manufacturers? and will a petrol box from a 2200, 2600 later turbo diesel engines? mx5/rx7 etc?

or is there a diesel engine and box swap that will be almost as easy and/or more common? that use the same engine mounts? i would really prefer to stick with a diesel. well the missus really loves the soot spewing diesel

ok , posting some options.

the RF (diesel) and re (petrol) are the same block head combination. and the earlier R2 is the same platform as the RF. which means bell-housing pattern is the same. the S2 precedes the r2 of which im hoping has the same bell housing pattern.

is there anyone out there that can confirm this?

alternatively, which of the 80's mazda gearboxes are a multi piece box. (seperate belhousing to box)
as ive seen a thread on the rx7 forum where a fella used the s2 diesel in a series 3 rx7 using the rx7 box on the truck (b2200 ute) bell housing.

I know for sure all of the B2000/2200 gas model transmissions from 86-93 are interchangeable, same transmission as the non turbo RX7. I have the B2200 tailshaft and center piece on a 91 RX7 transmission. It't not exactly just the bellhousing that is removable, but moreso the front half of the gearbox/internals that bolts to the rear half/tailshaft.

Thanks for the reply. Since posting, I have finally found a tech tutorial on how to pull them down, and do some swaps.
The pre turbo rx7 is the easiest and simplest to use, as the TII (turbo second gen) boxes although the same, use a much more revised tail end and would mean I need to make a new tail shaft. -_-;

So series 3 rx7 box it is.
