I read a few articles on here already about swapping a 302 in but as I am using this truck for drifting I'm thinking front end heavy might be an issue. Need ideas. What engine would be the best suit. I like the 302 idea as torque throughout all RPM's is awesome hence most moving to V8's anyway.

do the v-8 i say...i drift mine and dont have any problems...maybe better to be lighter in the front, but whatever you do you will still have to get used to it...every vehicle is gonna be different.

Ya, your probably right. I checked out a link someone posted to minitrucks or something where they did a step by step swap of the 302, and it looks really simple if i can take the time to do things properly. Took it out for the last drift session this year as is (welded diff, stock engine) and it did better than i thought. I have all winter to look after this project.

Do these trucks get around corners good with a welded diff?I mess around with mine with the stock diff and it doesn't seem to have the power to stay sideways

I can go sideways anytime it's wet out, stock 2600i extended cab. The other day, I had the chance to enjoy some rain, going up a hill with a right hand turn and being in second--with the truck to the left. That said when it's dry it will break loose, but not stay for very long unless I have a good corner. Other wise it's a one wheel wonder (whichever is the inside tire for the corner) around the corner and up the street.

An lsd would probably help, welded will always have you spinning a tire anytime your not in a straight line.

I'm always tempted to turbo the 2.6 (seems set up for it) or drop a 5.0 or 383 SBC stroker in. Of course probably never happen, but hey that's what sounds fun to me.
