Hello,

My buddy just bought a lowered 86 b2200 the truck looks nice there is one issue though. The truck is a 5 speed and he doesnt know how to properly drive a stick. He wants a tach installed I need to know where his rpm wire is that I will need to tap into. I also need to know where the red line is on the tach I found a speedo and tach cluster that would work for a 87-93 is there something similar that will work for the 86 model. Thanks in advanced for all the help in advanced.

As far as I know, the cluster with the tachometer will just plug right in and operate, you just need to relocate the speedometer cable left of the bracket so it doesn't bind and break.

I have only pulled theses clusters (two), haven't yet installed one. Be sure to release the clip in the engine compartment that holds down the speedometer cable so you'll have slack to pull the cluster rearwards enough to disconnect the cable.

If you add an aftermarket tach like I did, that taps into the coil negative terminal.

I installed mine over a year ago in my 89 B2200. The tach wire is one of the many connected to the posts on the ignition coil. Just make sure all of those are hooked up and the tach will work with no added wires. The only wire you will need to add is a power wire for the clock on the instrument panel. There are several good write-ups about this swap. Redline for these motors is generally around 5500 rpm but I personally don't go over 4000 rpm.
