mass airflow sensor problem, i think.

hey guys. im havin a problem with my 94 ford ranger. it has the 3.0 in it. well the problem is that the motor surges when your in the 2500 3200 rpm range. like the tach needle and the engine fluxuates. but when i pull the plug on the sensor off, it runs fine but wont shift into over drive and the check engine light comes on. any suggestions would help. thanx

I only have experience with the 2.3 & 4.0 but try checking your vacuum lines make sure you can't hear a hissing noise coming from the engine bay. Have you tried replacing the sensor? They are known to go bad.

also check your EGR Valve mine truck surged just like that i replced my EGR and it runs great now
