bed question

Does anyone know if this part of the bed, the red area in the pic below with the three holes in them...where the bed extender would go, is a structural piece? Could I cut that part out and sheet metal over the remaining hole and not have to worry about my bed folding in? Or would I need to add some support back?

are you talking about the area where your tailgate hinges mount to?

nah, the part in front of that, that bumps out and narrows the bed width.

man I have no clue what your talking about lol can you high light it or take a close up pic, ill be able to tell ya my one bed has been all cut up.

im no expert but it doesnt look like it would any extra support just a mounting point for that bed extender thing.

i would leave it man it looks cleaner when the tailgate is closed to have that piece, if you shave it then your tailgate hardware will show even when the tailgate is closed.

I guess it is since its been there since 93 long before the bed extender was invented.
