Hello all. Back 15 years ago I bought a mighty max, best damn truck I ever bought.. well that truck got repoed. I've always told myself I'll own another. Well this past week I was CL searching and I came across a one owner 89 D50 $500. Yup I bought it. Never driven in the winter 111,648 original miles 2.6 liter automatic. Solid truck very little rust, couldn't say no. Problem is the head was broken so the guy replaced the head and gasket set but couldn't get running again. So he got frustrated and sold it to me. I'm not rally mechanically inclined. I brought it home today chaged the battery dumped some fuel in carb and it fired up but only for 2 seconds, popping thru the carb.. pulled plugs 2 of the 4 were wet. Did a compression test 125lbs all 4 cylinders. I'm getting a chiltons this week for it.. but I figure for the price even if I have to put another motor in it, it'll be worth it.. I'm thinking maybe timing out of wack, just don't have the money to take it to a shop right now.. if I can post pics of it I will...

Don't bother with Chiltons. Download the Factory Service Manual from MontyMcV at 4x4wire.com and reads through the selection of manuals. The head bolt torque values in Chiltons are wrong, a TSB from Mitsubishi well after the 2.6L production updated the torque value. Second, check that the distributor is in correctly and that the ignition wires are in the proper order.

Cheers, Russell
