87 dodge ram 50 4X4 problem

Hello all. I am glad i found this site and hoping you all can help me. My ram 50 is an automatic. well. I Shift it into 4 high and the dash light comes on but nothing as far as working...I can even shift it into low range and it works but no 4 wheel drive. Any ideas on this please. It would be great if it is just somthing simple as what i found earlier for my overdrive was just a relay....Thanks in advance.

It could be as simple as the dried out grease in the Auto Hubs not letting the sliding pieces actuate.

When you shift through the transfer case, you are still able to go, right? If so, look toward the auto hubs. You can check them pretty easily, pop the caps off and look inside. If you want to change out the auto hubs for manual, plh on this site (and others) has a line on OE-type Aisin clone manual hubs.

Thanks for the tips. I never would of thought that. Yes I can drive when it is in the 4 low and high gears just not pulling.. thanks again and will let you know
