just wondering if anyone has put a chip in a stock 1986 or if you have any ideas

Hi I don't think that will help you at all and not sure if a chip was ever made for a 86 you'll benefit more if you do things like better Carb cam header you know that kind of stuff I'm a Turbo Guy so that's the way I went just ditch the carb go fuel injection.

do you use weber carbs?
turbo d50   +1y
no i went efi i pulled 2.6 turbo motor from a conquest tsi

Got any advice for someone thinking of switching to fuel injection? this may sound like a stupid question.. but how do you smog it without stock carb?
turbo d50   +1y
Well can't answer that one if you did a 2jz swap I would think you could have it smog if its running right you'll need to check with local laws or someone in your state
that performs the smog test i think that it would have to pass smog for that motor
but I've been wrong before I'm in Indiana we don't have to smog.

ya theyre real strict about smog here in california so maybe I better go another route to increase performance/hp

A lil blurb from the wiki on Starions "The move to the 2.6 L in all markets was spurred by emissions restrictions around the world tightening to meet the American standards for lead in fuels."

Not sure if that'd effect the smog at all but you may want to check around. I always thought smog had more to do with how many cats and O2 sensors were in line with the exhaust system. I had a nice mustang that was originally from Cali. Had 6 cats and o2 sensors on it. You're right, Cali is strict. But you may be able to take to an exhaust guy after the swap and have him fix it up and get it up to par for emission tests.

So how'd that swap work out for ya, turbo d50? I was reading that on the starion the 2.0 turbo actually has better take off and redline, whereas the 2.6 has a better torque. I would think going into a truck, the better torque would work out better? I'm thinking about swapping mine so I can get better gas mileage. Did yours improve any? I've always heard more power = better gas mileage. Plus I could maybe actually pass people. And tow a boat with it. I too would be interested in seeing some videos of your turbo'd rig. Would love to see just how much umf a turbo would add to it.

sorry for the delay but the 2.6 swap worked out great and yes the 2.0 has revs much higher then the 2.6 but thats only it you have a small turbo on it the stocker 12a turbo runs out of steem i run a 18g and my motor is modded so i can rev it to 6500 rpm when stock it would rev to 5500 or so but the torque was a kick but and as for the gas mileage i get around 23mpg if i keep my foot out of it im still working that lol so if you want to pass someone you wont have a problem my truck is quick for what it is and if you want to pick on a honda or a older mustang it will do that with ease .ill try to get a video up as for power i have around 240hp.
