Difference in piston head?

So Im replacing the a bad connecting rod but Im running the risk of cracking the older piston, which I was intending to use. I cant find anyone that sells a replacement piston for my 80 Arrow Pickup. Running a real gamble here with my situation.

My pistons have a slight depression in their head. One place said they can find pistons with a flat head but not with the depression. I know enough about cars/trucks to get by but not much about certain aspects of an engine. From an ignorant point of view I dont see why they would work....but Im sure Im wrong. So my question goes out to maxd50..is it possible to use the flat head pistons instead?

Or is there another make or model substitution out there?

that was the plan but my local auto parts store has an idiot that ordered the wrong part for me and come to find out they cant get connecting rods. The bad one I have is at a machinist today to see if it can be cleaned up to the point of use. If not there is a maybe if local guy who might have old left over pistons from years ago.

So really in dire straights, being this is my only vehicle, are there any dangers to swapping out pistons from a depressed head to a flat head? Ups the compression understandably, but does it matter? Is clearance the only factor?

Sorry its the 4cyl 2.6 G54B

Got a machinist in town to clean up the bad rod. It still looks a lil nasty on the sides but where the bearing goes its as smooth as a babies bottom. Still interested in the piston swap. Maybe just to have the pistons for some time later down the road.

it was the thought that counts. Thanks
