Mistake!?

I was being an idiot and undid my ditributor from it's spot and tried to pull it out. without think i just popped it back in and then the bad news came. someone told me if you do that it can throw the who engine out of whack. I just undid the plugs and the one fastener on the mountand pulled it out. it's on the 2.6L

ya it wont start if you dont put it in right. but it wont harm the engine at all. if i remember right you put the engine at tdc the there should be marks on the distributor gear and you line up the marks then slap it in. but youll need to adjust the timing too. are you talking about you took out the entire distributor or just the cap?
