Howdy all,

When I bought this 1992 2WD Mighty Max, with some tinkering and assistance from this board - the little black truck that could is running like a striped-ass ape (22-25 MPG in traffic) and the AC blows cold as ice - and it had 169k miles. Since then, it rolled 170,000 and the dreaded MAINT REQ'D light popped on and is staying on. I dont know if that is a automatic thing that just happens to let you know about some service that needs to be done or what. But is there a way to shut it off w/out heading to my local yocal mechanic so he can run me for $50 to shut the light off?

Also, I am in the process of getting a Chiltons guide and owner's manual to the truck so I can stay up on the required maintenance. I want to drive this truck for ever and want to keep it in tip-top shape.

As per usual, any and all comments are appreciated. When I am able to provide any feedback to you all, I will surely do so.

lol take the bulb out of the light. if im not mistaken theres a switch on the back bottom side of the cluster somewhere that you can flip and it resets the light. not 100% on that but im pretty sure ive seen this a handfull of times with these trucks. its worth a shot

yes on the right side of the instrument panel cover you pop the black cover off to reveal the mounting screws you will find a switch just turn it the opposite way of where it is and it will go off.

I've got an '86 that the light came on one day as I was watching the odomoter roll over to some big number- can't remember which one.

It came on nice and slow, just as the zero was rolling over. Don't know how I thought of it, but I looked up under the dash and there was a little switch there on the printed circuit board of the instrument cluster. I pushed the switch the opposite direction from what it was, and viola- the light went out. I turned it on and off a few times to see if that had any effect, but it didn't>

My '87 has that switch. I comes on at 50K, 120K, and once again, at 170K would be my guess. At 50K you throw the switch. At 120K you throw the switch back. The next time you remove the bulb. I had electrical tape on mine before I figured this out.

the switch worked great! Of course, now the 18 yr old black plastic that is around my speedo is broken... but the light is OUT!!!

My manual for this truck actually says to remove the bulb at the 120,000 mile service. Says it was only a reminder to check the egr valve and the oxygen sensor. My guess that was only for warranty purposes and the chance to get some extra money for the service department
