i just got my 89 MM 3 weeks ago, the guy said it the clutch was slippin and i'd prolly have to replace it within a few hundred - thousand miles. well yesterday as i was driving home i noticed that 1-4 took a lot of work to get the truck to move...especially 1st gear. on 1st, the truck wouldn't catch until it hit about 15mph. no matter what gear, i shift...i rev...it doesn't catch..and i move VERY slow.

would you guys just replace the clutch disc or get the whole clutch kit? i'm kinda short on cash...and how difficult is it to change? special tools needed? i've changed a civic before but never a RWD. are the manuals from your normal auto parts store a good reference...i know the original is better but those are so hard to get.

thanks guys!

I'd bite the bullet and get the whole kit: disc, pp, tob, alignment tool. Easy install. A helper would be, well, helpful. I'd also pick up a rear tranny seal and some fresh gear oil. Check the universal joints before you take the driveshaft off. Also, take a close look at the tranny mount.

ok i'll bite the bullet and get the kit. i do have a couple helpers so that's covered. so do you guys think the Chilton manuals are good enough to go by or should i try to look for an original workshop manual. all in all it's an easy install right. i shouldn't have BIG problems and it's pretty straight forward?

You don't need anything more than a Chilton's or a Haynes. I prefer Haynes. Don't forget that rear tranny seal. Straight forward job. I'd allow 2 long days.

Just as notice, put whatever money is needed towards a good quality clutch, I went thru changing my clutch for the second time (not fun on a 4WD V6) because the Ebay one collapsed. And MAKE SURE to resurface the flywheel !!

looks like i can get a full kit from my local kragen for not too much. gota do it soon though...i need my second vehicle up and running! LOL

Hi Gix,

if you haven't replace your clutch yet, you may want to consider replacing the crankshaft rear main seal since you have the flywheel off.
