Mass Airflow

Can a bad Mass airflow sensor stop the engine from firing? I was having trouble with mine. Had to use a cleaner every few days. One time it started acting up, but this time the cleaner did not work and the engine had no spark. I replaced the coil, but no go. No, a Mass air flow wont take away spark. What motor and what year? Have you checked dist. cap and rotor button??
