Hello, I have a 90 Mighty Max that needs a new engine. I'm looking at an engine out of a 91 Diamante but need to know what the differences are...

I know the oil filter housing will have to be relocated, and also a slight mod to the motor mount
I assume the intake w/accs will have to be swapped because of ECU issues
The Diamante is an auto, and the MM is a 5 spd - will the flywheel from the MM bolt onto the Diamante engine?
I assume front accessories will have to be swapped, along with exhaust manifold.

What I'm asking is can one use the Diamante or Dodge Caravan engine, with few mods? I don't have a problem making the mods listed above, but I don't want to buy something that requires a stupid amount of fab...

I've looked everywhere and can find little info on this, so if you can help or post a link to info, it will be greatly appreciated!

i believe the Chrysler 2.7/3.3/3.5/3.8 family has a different bell housing than the Mitsu 3.0 (that was an inspiration for the 3.3). My opinion is that the 2.4 is a better powerplant than a base 3.0 if you already have a 4 banger setup to start with. but the Mitsu 3.5 and 3.8 are definitely worth a look if you want to make some good power easily.

i'd like to put a late model montero 3.8 with 250hp/tq in my 87 Ram 50. only problem is I need to track down an R5M31 trans to keep the 5spd and rear wheel drive. we only got the V5M31 in the states because they only put automatics in the 2wd monteros so i will have to keep an eye on out on the international ebay and craigslist listings because the R5' was a rare, short term option on the autralian and perhaps euro spec pajero (aka montero). the early KM based 2wd 5spd for the v6 is not rugged enough for higher than stock 3.0 n/a power levels. and i would need to change half the parts to ditch the transfer case and convert a V5' for rear wheel drive use....

i believe the chrysler 3.5 (250hp on 87 octane) is an aluminum engine. it was the optional engine in the 2nd gen dodge intrepid and the base engine in the magnum wagon. i just joined the best 6G forum out there get in touch with OldColt....he knows this stuff!

I picked up a 91 MM 4x4 with a thrown rod in the 3.0. I ended up finding a 3.0 out of a Diamante and it worked out just fine. I did have to use a few parts off of the blown engine but everything was pretty obvious. It is a little higher compression engine than what was stock in the MM but runs great.
