so the Mcguyver who owned the truck before me (90mm 2.4) for some unexplainable removed the silent shaft from the engine. (-_-) wtf would posess him t odo so? is there some free horsepower (doubtful) thats is restrained with it on? now i know why the thing rocks like a stroked chevy 464. i had to adjust the idle a smidge higher to compensate. i noticed it while diag. frog ass tight coolant hoses and saw a gaping hole in the timing area. no belt, shaft, tensioner. not to mention the tight hoses seems to be a bad head gasket on the exhaust side. te radiator has a gasseyexhaustey odor...no foam or mud butt on the oil or radiator cap...water just vanishes...tight ass hoses...put put starts. so i just assume the whole motor is fucked (like likfe) so not i guess ill get a g63 and try to find an intake that wont aim at the fire wall and brake booster. fml!

Well sir, they remove those because they "think" it will break and cause damage if caught in the timing belt. Very low likelyhood.

ya alot of people remove them. alot of people say they do break sometimes they can even seize up and break the belt. ive never experianced it though.

mitsu's pop belts regardless. no point in eliminating it unless your making it faster.

Anything that doesnt have proper tension "pops" belts, has nothing to do with it being a mitsu. It gives you more vibration and DOES NOT give you any horsepower by taking it off.

guys i had one that the bearing let go in the block ;; turned and scored the block surface so bad; i had to do away with the balance shaft ;; what i did was leave the upper shaft in the block to dead end oil gallery ; and remove oil pump assembly and cut and plug off oil supply in middle of shaft about one inch from pump works just fine ;; still take and beat six cyls with my 2.4

ooohh yea guys forgeot to mention about chain ;;; just take out right amount of links ,too only run from crank to pump , and leave bottom chain guide there; i did this in my place no special tools ;; about two years ago now , drives every day ,in different temps ;;; also did it too my [ 88] ram 50 4x4 2.6 winter truck being from maritimes canada so it worked on both trucks and still going no problem.
